One year's registration of domain name and email
- What does this mean?
A domain name is a way to getting to a site without having to memorize its IP Address. If you click on this link, 68.212.84.82, you will be taken to the Websites On A Dime homepage. 68.212.84.82 is the actual address of this Website in computer language.
However, "sitesonadime.com" is easy to remember. "68.212.84.82" is not.
To avoid typing numbers, we "bind" words with an extension (.com, .net, .org, etc.) to get to where we want to go. What we type into our browsers is a site address, or URL (universal resource locator), which is made up of at least a domain name and a file name. For example, in:
sitesonadime.com/index.htm
"sitesonadime.com" is the domain name (encompassing the whole site)
"index.htm" is the file, or specific page, in the site
Registering a domain name means hiring a company (such as godaddy.com) to allow prospective customers to locate your site by entering your domain name instead of its IP address. This also enables customers to find your site by using their favorite search engine.
The yearly $25 price for this service includes our help in selecting your domain name (and making sure it's unique) and registering the name for you, as well as the company's own yearly fees. We'll also remind you when it's time to renew your domain name.
Discounts are available when registering for multiple years at once.
